The successful candidate will undertake research investigations in collaboration with and under the supervision of the line manager in order to realise the objectives and development of the research projects/programme.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

Within the Centre for Clinical Pharmacology various projects of Professor Xiao’s group will aim to investigate the pathogenesis and underlying signal pathways of vascular diseases including atherosclerosis, vascular calcification, injury-induced arterial remodelling, transplant arteriosclerosis, aortic aneurysm and dissection; to elucidate molecular mechanisms of stem cell differentiation and somatic cell direct reprogramming; and to study the therapeutic potential of stem/progenitor cell-derived vascular cells in cardiovascular diseases, etc.

About Queen Mary

Excellent skills and rich experience in animal handling and various animal models of cardiovascular diseases (such as vessel injury-induced neointimal formation, arterial ligation, vascular grafting, cell injection/transplantation, or bone marrow transplantation model, etc.) are essential. Good experiences in stem cell biology including induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell generation and differentiation, somatic cell direct conversion/trans-differentiation into vascular cells, isolation/characterization of different type of adult stem/progenitor cells from various tissues/organs, RNA sequencing, and/or bioinformatics, are also desirable.
